Hi Catt, we stayed in the Mandira Family Rooms twice in June 2004. The first was very big with Queen bed and two singles, the balcony was enclosed so forms a kind of "stage" at the end of the room as it is slightly elevated and had lots of cushions on it (this became the storage area for suitcases and surfboards. THe windows look out the back in the opposite direction to the beach so basically over the rooftops of Padma St, nothing too exciting to look at.
When we returned 2 weeks later we were in the same block, but the rooms faced towards the beach. They are certainly not a "family" room, it comfortably fit a queen bed and then they squeeze in two fold out beds. It did, however have a balcony which looked out to the Superior Cottages.
We found the 2nd room too squeezy as our kids were 11 and 8 and needed more space.
We are returning this year in June and have thrown caution to the wind and have booked 2 x deluxe cottages, as I made a vow not to share a room with the kids again. Not sure what age yours are, if they are younger, the first Family Room we had would be perfect. You need to be quite specific when you book.
Good luck.
