I always stay in Tuban where there are many good hotels, Rama Beach, Risata Bali, Greena Garden Resort & Spa, Ramada Bintang, Bali Dynasty and Balihai Resort, to name but a few. Also agree with Bali Garden Hotel as a good choice.
We always stay at Balihai Resort and while I don't know of AA Hotel, I have wandered thru Palm Hotel. It is well laid out, the buildings are in a horseshoe around the pool and restaurant. It was clean and tidy. We had alook at rates and they where lower than most. It is mainly used by Indonesian tourists which adds to the ambience of the place. As to the rooms, I ma unable to sya how big or comfortable they are. It is an older place.
Fra from it being a long way from places, it is only a 10 minute walk along the beach to Kuta art market and 15 minutes to Jl Pantai. The entrance is at the end of Jl Wana Segara and opposite Pantai Restaurant. On the R/H side from the sea is Gang Samudra which is great for shopping. Jl Kartika plaza runs from the end of that gang also.
