First, make sure your daughter's number is saved to the phone on the old phone you intend to take with you. Her number should be entered as: + (for international access), 61(for Oz), 2 (or 3, depending what State she's in) and then the number, omitting the first zero. Therefore, for a Sydney number (0410123123), you'd enter +612410123123. Easy!

You can buy a SIM card almost everywhere you go in Bali. The salesperson will recommend the best one for your purposes, in this case texting to Oz. Last year I put a 50,000Rp credit on the card, and had stacks left over when we were leaving. I passed it on to someone else on the forum who was going over. I wonder if it's still doing the rounds.

Have a wonderful time. Don't stress. Have a Bintang for me. We'll be there again in May. If you've finished with you SIM card by then, maybe I could have it?
