When Reggie's golden child Ansett slipped off-shore into the hands of Air New Zealand, the wise-ones gave it a dose of economic rationalisation the likes of which it had never seen before. Suddenly flights were less frequent, service was less evident and as the wisdom of such insightful management took hold...passengers became something of a rarity! CEO's came out in public trumpeting the airlines security, lots of cabin upgrades, a brand new ad campaign was rolled out...can you see a pattern forming here? Ap now Garuda... We all know the rest of the story. Of course there was much more to it than that as the extent of Ansett's corporate was laid open to the public. But the point is we are a bit gunshy when it comes to major announcements from airlines. Of course, Garuda won't go under...we know that. But what is the point of banging on about aircraft upgrades and new staff appointments if you then turn around and reduce the services you oiffer!
