We do not encourage visits to the family home for two main reasons. We have a duty-of-care to protect the children, and to respect the families privacy.

If the family invites you home, then that is THEIR invitation, not ours, and then it is OK. At no time should we ever assume to encroach on somebody elses privacy.

Neither do we encourage or discourage people from giving gifts as that is a personal choice, although we would prefer them to be kept simple & economic. However, peoples hearts are nearly always in the right place, but you need to know the family before giving something that is well intentioned, but not always practical. I sometimes question the giving of 10kgs of rice to assist feeding a family, especially when 90% of our kids come from rice farming families.
