NSW Police have arrested a baggage handler from Sydney Airport following an investigation into the transportation of illegal drugs between Sydney and Melbourne on a domestic flight.
Detectives from the NSW Drug Squad took the man to Mascot police station where it was alleged that he had hindered a police investigation involving the supply of cocaine.
It is understood that the arrest followed an operation at the domestic terminal in February when police intercepted a bag allegedly containing cocaine with a street value of $60,000.
The baggage handler allegedly informed the owner of the bag that police were involved
The suspect fled Sydney but was arrested yesterday in Leichhardt.
He was charged with supply commercial quantity of drug and two counts of possess drugs.
The incident is not related to the on-going investigation into baggage handlers at the international terminal.
However, it lends credence to claims made by Victorian prison informer John Patrick Ford, who gave evidence at Schapelle Corby's trial in Bali, about drugs being transported on domestic flights.
