Our family (2 adults, 3 kids) have received both these shots. We received them when we went to Italy for a month in 2002. We were visiting rural areas so it was recommended by our health unit (we are Canadian) We had to pay for these shots, except for two of our children who received Hep B as part of school shots when they were 11 years old. Yes it was expensive but the shots provide long term immunity. Hep A is contracted by someone who has it preparing your food. I for one will not take this chance with my kids. I have a call into the health unit to see what additional shots may be needed...typhoid? We have DPT and MMR through the regular vaccination program paid for by the government although my husbands and my tetanus shots may need to be boosted. Just my 2 cents!
