Tracy, did you do any research on this forum, Mic's forum, Trip Advisor or Tegal Sari's website before making your booking? I knew before I booked that it is quiet & peaceful hotel, it is 15-20 minutes walk to the Ubud market, there is complimentary shuttle service within the main Ubud area and that there was no TV in the rooms. These were all incentives to stay there in my opinion!
I staying by myself at Tegal Sari for 6 days last year & loved it so much that I'm staying there again in early March. I loved the peace & quiet. At dusk, I would sit out on the patio & watch the herons fly home, the ducks get herded & watch the sunset over the monkey forest.
At night, I was driven to the restaurant of my choice & collected when I rang. One night I walked down to Pizza Bagus for dinner, which was approx 5 mins walk from the hotel. Didn't feel unsafe.
After dinner, I would read or watch a DVD on my laptop and then fall asleep to the sounds of the frogs croaking in the rice fields. Bliss!
