I got Dengue fever in Bali last June. Spent seven days in hospital. Very serious. Cost $7000 so make sure you have travel insurance. Lots of technical stuff but if you get real bad they fly you back to Oz. Only treatment is rest and watch the blood platelet count. Secondary infection can be a problem as the body's imune system is low. I was "low" for quite a while afterwards. Most seriious for the young and old ( I'm in the latter group :( )
There are 4 types of Dengue. Once you have had one typoe you are immune against that one. So 3 to go for me.
Tyhe strain I had is spread by the "zebra" mosquito that has a stripped body and is out during the daytime - so you need to be protected day and night.
Going back to Bali on Saturday armed with an electric "garden mossie zapper" ( not available in Bali.)

Same rule wherever you travel :- take sensible precautions do not get paranoid and enjoy your trip.
