Hi Helen,

Stemetil is OK to use rather than Maxalon. Most hospitals use Maxolon as the first line of drug treatment for vomiting & Stemetil is generally used if Maxolon doesn't work or for allergies to Maxalon.

I prefer Imodium to Lomotil because it has less side effects & is less likely to cause constipation. Lomotil can be addictive (it has a similar chemical makeup as some narcotics) if overused, which is not a good thing! It should be kept out of reach of children.
Anti-diarrhoeal agents should not be used long term unless directed by a doctor. Nor should they be given to children under 12yrs. Diarrhoea that doesn't settle should be investigated by a doctor.

I would recommend adding an electrolyte supplement to your first aid kit to replace those lost during acute vomiting & diarrhoea. Eg: gastrolyte or similar.

Cheers.
