The fact that it stops the runs is why it's NOT good for Bali belly as it stops the bad stuff escaping your body. It does nothing to kill the bug that has made you sick. The injection given by the doctor kills the bug.
That's why Immodium is ok as a short term thing to help you leave the hotel for a day, when you have an upset stomach, but it's not a solution for true Bali belly (which is not the same thing as traveller's diahorrea).
