Bali, January 30 to February 10 2007
We left Adelaide at 2.10pm on our way to Melbourne to catch our Jetstar flight to Bali. After everything we read on BTF we were a little apprehensive about flying with Jetstar, but all we can say about Jetstar is, fantastic. Friendly service at the airport and in the air, I have to add at this point that we did upgrade to Star-Class at the airport and boy was it worth it, only $200 each, both ways.
Arrived in Bali on time at 9.45pm and we were out of the airport 30 minutes later to be greeted by our Bali brother, the smile on his face was worth the price of the trip. 15 minutes later we were at our Hotel, The Grand Istana Rama, Kuta. After checking in we were shown to our room, this is were our smile disappeared, just have to add that this is our 3rd time staying at this Hotel, our room had 2 single beds in it, instead of a King-Size bed, the 30th is our anniversary, so any thought of Jiggy-Jig went out the window ;-( I told the porter that this room will not do, so he got on the phone, unfortunately for us, we had to stay in that room for the night until they could get us into the right room the next day, which was a Deluxe Cottage-style room.
While we waited for our room, we went up to Poppies Lane 2 and said hello to all our friends in the shops there, they all remembered us by name and were so pleased to see us again, not sure if this is because of all the money we spend with them or not ;-) we do a fair bit of shopping, as we all do in Bali. We can highly recommend Eddie, he is in the first shop on the corner of Poppies 2 and Jalan Legian, if he aint got it, he will get it for you. Also, if you're after DVD's, walk up Poppies to the first bend and on the right you will see the DVD shop, at only $1, you will get top quality, no BS movies.
One of the gourmet delights we discovered was in Ubud, it's called, Café Lotus, not sure what street it is in but all the drivers will know it. What a SENSATIONAL place to have a feed, the ambience is beautiful and the food SPECTACULAR, not to mention the service the staff provide. We cannot recommend this place highly enough, if you're in Ubud, check it out.
Another highlight was watching a Pommy bloke who had a little to many magic-mushies, take all his clothes off and dance around at the front of the Hotel Sahid Raya. The cops came and took him to the police station and we walked up to have a look. We have to walk past the police station to get to our Hotel and as we got there the Pommy bloke decided he would start swinging at the cops and telling them to go and get you know what. The guy was off his face.
Anyway, enough for now. We only got back today and my brain is a bit fried. I will post more later.
Cheers
