that visitors to Bali know more about possible mountain weather than a Balinese driver, well known to me, who was born and grew up in the mountains of Northern Bali. A straight answer may well have been along the lines of, "Sounds very unlikely, but I really don't know". That sums up my feelings too and that's why I posed the question.

The temperature drops 7 degrees Celsius for every 1000 metres of altitude. This is basic science. For instance, this would give a temperature difference of 22C at the top of Agung. Certainly cold enough for snow, if other weather conditions were appropriate.

I got an answer on another forum that sleet [ie mixed snow and rain] has been known to fall in Bali in the high mountains. This to me doesn't sound like beyond the bounds of possibility.
