Breifly. Real Balineese would not harm a child, other wise they are not allowed back to the village. Their religious holidays are based around returning to the village and family. Very important to them and they would have no where to live. Hotels will provide someone with there mark up on the price. Often its staff wanting a few extra rupiah. Often its a young girl who has looked after her sibblings while the parents were in the fields, so she has plenty of experience and at the same time young enough to play with your child. We never had any problems. We would often ask a staff member direct if they new of any one who could babysit for us, thus cutting out the middle man. We know of families who negotiated a pembuntau (sp?) this way (nanny)and they never had any problems. You will get the feel for things when you are there.
