The call rates are like calling a land line - the phone is a radio-phone which connects to the landline exchange, Telkom trying to deal with the lack of phone cabling infrastructure in Indonesia. Great concept, but they have some major problems with Flexi, the technology is archaic and bandwidth inadequate.

As Putu3au said, they are very unreliable. I had one for a while, and ended up ditching it as not only did we have problem connecting with Australia, but more than half the time we couldn't get or keep a connection locally.

If you use a phone card like Shout! or GreenCard, the call rate to a mobile in Indonesia is only about 17c a minute, so cheaper than calling a mobile from your home phone. You can yak for an hour for $10.
