to early book xmas

is it jumping the gun a tad thinking about booking flights for xmas.We have made some enquiries regarding accom in ubud and wil be able to do it cheaper booking flights and accom seperate.But friends have told me they tried booking flights march for xmas last year and had to go on a wait list and stilldidnt get the dates they wanted had to go week later than planned and return a few days earlier.We will be really limited to definate dates and no leeway at all.
