Hello, :) yes the floods are affecting the phone lines since about 11am yesterday... I can ring from mobile to mobile (but after a few attempts first) and ringing from mobile to landline is impossible, alot of the landlines have been cut! The last call I was able to make from a landline was about 10am yesterday. Its still not working now.
My sms's have been "delivered" to australia, but I'm not gettting replies, i dont know if its because my parents are busy (they are having a party for my dad's 60th today)or its the weather affecting the communications. And my emails have been fine as well...
The Jakarta post hasnt updated their website yet. Im taking a big guess here and saying that their office is flooded out. The Media Indonesia printing press (which is in the same building as my boyfriends office Metro Tv) is also flooded out so didnt print a paper for today. The Jakarta post is located in the same place in West Jakarta.
I live in a 3 storey building kinda like an apartment building privately owned (lucky im on 2nd floor), and our basement was flooded out yesterday, about ankle deep, but kept rising thru last night (after another major downpour) however, there's another building connected to this one, a cheaper boarding house for uni students, and their rooms were armpit deep. My boyfriend waded thru and got it all on video.. the poor buggers!! in that carpark, there were about 10 cars, (BMW's included) flooded up to their windows... !!
The water has now gone down, about 20cm.. the basement is now empty...but the other rooms are still 1.2metres deep. However they are expecting water to come down to Jakarta from the mountains again this evening from the town of BOGOR.. so hopefully the water level doesnt rise again... The owner of this place, has lost everything in their house as well. The cost must be up to hundred's of millions by now... (they are a well off family tho)
Outside its hot and cloudy, but it was like that yesterday afternoon and poured this morning about 3am....thats' when i started stressing, because if the basement got deeper i cant get out of here, and if the power goes out.. (thank God it hasnt yet) it will be worse!!!
I really dont want to even go near the water, because of the rubbish and other "floaties" in it...if any!!!... they are having trouble controlling dengue fever as it is in Jakarta, after these floods I think it will be much much worse !
