There were no problems at all with the materials clearing through customs. We have wooden shingles on our roofs. The wood used for the hut and all our other products we purchased are made from Bangkani hardwood (or maybe its Bangkasari, sorry can't remember) anyway it's the best wood you can get, with carvings on the posts. Our hut also included hardwood floorboards, solid hardwood doors with half windows on them plus a shutter door that matches the shutters on the windows, windows and wooden shutters with good quality hinges on shutters and doors, with an internal wall and solid wood sliding door with window on door to seperate room from the bathroom. The internal roof is all authentically thatched with a weaved bamboo look and looks fantasic. We also got a verandah floor extension to join to our gazebo and 2 sets of stairs. All of this was for about $6,500.00. then of course you have to pay tax and shipment fees but at the time we had a 40 foot container and also got heaps of goodies including mirrors, 12 lanterns on pillars, huge volcanic rock statues which are so cheap compared to what you pay here, and a real sized elephant statue.
We have shipped 3 containers now to our house including furnishings for our house and outdoor entertaining areas and settings. So for us the end results was worth it. And many of the unique things like our formal dining table that has intricate carvings all over the top of it can not compare with what's available here, nor can the prices we paid for them compared to the value they are worth here.
Good luck.
