sending front and back photo copies of your credit card has been talked about quite a bit on the forum so I rang my bank before doing it (Virgin) and was told under no circumstances give anybody front and back copies of your card.You can however give them the front details and the back three digits as varification that you are the owner of the card making the booking the same as if you where paying a bill over the phone eg. electricty,rates or phone .
I know that some of the hotel banks make this a requirement so all we did was made a booking over the phone and not the net.
Some other people on the forum have sent copies of their cards and had no problems but I prefer to play it safe.
My hotel will not charge my account until we stay there, maybe that is why they can't give you a receipt but I'm not sure what would happen if you didn't go through with your booking , I suppose there would have to be some sort of penalty.
If you can't get satisfaction you can always ring your card provider and stop any payment.
