Selamat tahun baru is what to say. Selamat ulang tahun is Happy Birthday. But the Indonesians are not very interested in New Year as on Jan 1, for Balinese Nyepi is most important, for the Chinese it is Imlek, and for the Muslims Idul Fitri. Each of these marks the start of their New Year. On Jan 1 2000 my friends couldn't understand what the fuss was about.
