I've spent plenty of good times on various Bali beaches and never hired a lounger or whatever. Just laid on the beach, with or without a towel.

Top end of Seminyak, Berawa, Canggu etc. For West Aussies, I would suggest that if you can handle the surf from North Cottesloe through to Triggs, then you can probably get a swim and/or body surf without getting into strife. But, just as you would back home, carefully check out the conditions before you go in and don't try to be a hero if the conditions are really rough, or you can see the obvious signs of rips.

Some of the Bukit surfing beaches are nice to lie and relax on, but perhaps offer only limited swimming possibilities. But you can always get wet!

Geger Beach is worth a visit. "romantic stroll or a refreshing skinny dip". Spot on, Filo, for both activities.

Plenty of lying around opportunities on Sanur Beach. Also Blue Lagoon and White Sand Beach at Padang Bai. The nice little white sand beach just past Candi Dasa, in the little fishing village down the narrow sealed road past Legends Cafe, running between Shangrila and Resor Prima. [As Filo suggests, a reminder of what Candidasa didn't realise what it had, until it was gone.] And [another] very nice indeed White Sand Beach a short drive going north from Candidasa. Or if you want to feel like you're living dangerously, go there on a motorbike. Just before you get to the beach itself, you feel like you're going over the edge of the cliff.

Thanks for the link, Filo, lots of good info and photos to make me feel nostalgic.
