Hi to those who asked me to follow up the outcome of my Indonesian ATM fraud. For those who did not see my previous post I shall fill you in briefly. I travel in and out of Bali for buisness which I might add is also a passion and a pleasure to do. Unfortunatley just on 2 weeks ago I discovered that nearly $10 000 AUD had been filtered out of my VISA DEBIT ACC. which is my buisness account. This was done through 9 transactions in various shops/hotel in Jakarta. Let me say I have apparently bought a lot of electrical goods in the Sony Centre Jakarta.
After going through the process to report each unauthorised transaction and cancel the card etc and set the investigation into place the outcome is I have just receivewd ALL funds back. Yeeha!

On speaking to the investigation centre I was told VISA SCAM is HUGE out of INDONESIA (so do take care).Mine most likely happened at an ATM as I NEVER use my card in shops/restaurants/hotels>I NEVER hand over my card nor does it leave my sight. With the ATM they have some way of skimming your no. off the card then make up a fake card with your no. and their name etc. The bank said the time frame appears to be 6 months down the track from your travel. I might add I have not been to Jakarta so this happened in BAli.It is also at the moment happeneing out of the UK and FRance .So along with Indo these are the hot spots the bank say.

Do be careful as I am a lucky one as investigations can take up to 30plus days to get your money back if the case is deemed in your favour.

The bank suggested for me to use a Cash Passport Card which you load with money and is safer (supposably than using a Visa debit or credit). You use it at ATMs.When you come home you just unload the money until you travel next.Fees etc less than the usual so thats a bonus and it doesnt have the raised card no. like a normal card so cant be copied etc.Maybe worth a try or looking into. You can check out re cards on www.travelex.com.au

Cheers for the Ho! Ho! Ho! season and Happy Travels .Toni
