There are a few things to consider. Firstly, which river? This will determine which company you go with. The company determines the starting and finishing poins, which in turn determines the steps. Sopem have none at the start and lots at the end, or a few at the start and some at the end. It seems in order to get a river with lots of water, which means good rafting, then it is usually in a ravine, and that means steps! We went with one company last year, whose name escapes me, on the Telaga Waja river. At the end there were quiite a few steps, but you stopped on the way for the bathrooms and then at the restaurant for lunch. This helped break the journey. But I agree, the steps are a killer!
