I always stay at Ubud Village Hotel too, but once when they were full we stayed at Puri Saraswati. We had the Rama Suite, I think it was called. It was actually only a small twin room, but the verandah was about the size of my house with carvings of the Ramayana all round it. Wonderful.
However the owners or managers seemed to live underneath (this was quite a few years ago) and they had a rooster and a dog. The rooster crowed from WELL before dawn and all the dogs in Ubud came to converse with our dog ALL night. I felt quite rotten the whole time I stayed there through lack of sleep.
It was fine apart from that, but Ubud Village Hotel is MUCH quieter, friendlier and the pool is bigger. And the rooms are nicer (or were then.) Email them direct, rather than going through an agent and they will give you a good rate.
