We spent 5 days at a hotel call Wawa-Wewe II last month, and it was the most relaxing, pleasant spot you can find! The beaches along Ahmed area are rocky and the bays are taken up with local fishing boats that all go out morning and afternoon and catch mainly mackeral. A girl at our hotel went out with one of the fishermen in the morning and came back with her own couple of fish for dinner that night. There is a lot of reef just off the shore, so it would depend on your rod, we did see a lot of fish jumping in the water not far off shore. The hotels have restaurants, and there are a few warungs, the main shop to speak of is right in Ahmed near the Divers Cafe. The whole area is lined with hotels for about 7-10kms, we had a car (which is how we got there) but didn't go out much as we enjoyed our hotel menu and couldn't be bothered moving. We went snorkelling at the Japanese shipwreck that is only about 30m off shore in approx 3m of water, surrounded by reef with so many different types of fish - it was great. I have a couple of photos and also a photo of a currrent map of the area showing the position of hotels etc if you want to email me (Mon work).
