Wahoo!! I'm here, after booking back in July on the day flights were announced, I'm happy to report the inaugural Jetstar Sydney - Denpasar flight today went very well.
Arrived at Sydney airport 2.5 hours before 6pm flight. Was greeted at check in by Jetstar staff handing out free goody bags to inaugural passengers. Included was a bright orange Jetstar towel, Lindor balls, Pack of hand wipes, CD and a sticker "I flew on the first Jetstar flight to Bali". Also had 2 Balinese dancers in full costume dancing for us as we lined up to check in.
As we walked onto the plane itself, staff handed out 200ml bottles of champagne to all passengers - another nice touch.
We took off almost 30 minutes late, just before 6.30pm, plane looked full.
I didnt buy the feed me or comfort me options (but food I saw looked good). I was very disappointed with the video on demand units. My first one started playing the movie ok, but died after a couple of mins. I managed to re-start, but happened again, so eventually got another. The worst part was the headphone. The one they provide you with is the standard airline one, the connector has 2 prongs, and goes to 2 earplugs. Fits into the arm rest connection perfectly, but the video units have only 1 hole - which means you only get sound in 1 ear. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, but spoke to air hostess, so said it was a design fault. With general aircraft noise, even on highest volume (40), I could not properly hear the movie. Would haved been $12 wasted, but I remembered I'd thrown in a headset in case I wanted to use my laptop...and luckily, it was the type with 1 prong, so fitted the video unit, and sound was great. So if you want to use that, I would really recommend bringing your own headset. I wish Jetstar had published what movies would be on it - I'd seen the good ones (Devil Wears Prada, Little Miss Sunshine), and the other adult ones not great. Included 'Beerfest' (truly pathetic, could only handle 15mins) & that Keanu Reeves one where the film is painted over, so characters have real/half animated looking (again, only lasted 15 mins on that one). I did watch Flicka in desperation, it was quite good. Also had Ant Bully, and couple others I'm forgetting.
They were meant to show 'Boytown' on the main cabin screens, but for some reason they didn't, so we had E news, Parkinson interviews & music video instead. 'Kenny' is the main (free) flight on the way home, so I hope that one is working.
Another nice touch was they took a polaroid shot of each person/couple on the flight (that we got to keep).
Wheels down was only 5mins late at 9.20pm local time, I managed to hoon through customs etc and was having my welcome drink in Tuban at 10pm......very impressed with that!
If not for the video units it would have been a perfect trip, was fun being on the first one. I now have 2 days here to power shop (hubby's expecting me to do all the Christmas shopping), and I'll return on the Sun night plane.
Is so good being here, can't believe how humid it is for this time of night.
