Thanks for the great read. I had to laugh at that man's attitude towards his dogs - imagine doing that in Australia!

For what it's worth, my first trip to Ubud left me covered in bites, which ultimately turned into nasty weeping blisters. I went to the doctor in Sanur, who said he thought they might be shingles, and to see a GP when I got home. Turned out they were bites, after all. The second time I went to Ubud the same thing happened. Next time I went to Ubud, I covered myself in repellant at all times, and didn't have a problem.

We tried a bottle of Hatten Rose once - a never-to-be-repeated experience. Indigo (I think it's called) isn't so bad, and Wine of the Gods is very good, but it's expensive. For a cheap drink, I stick to arak, soda and fresh lemon juice, once the duty free runs out. Cheers!
