about whats happened to your card!!
Last month in Jakarta (i live here) I wanted to buy a new laptop with my visa (cost 2000 USD).. .which was issused outside of Indonesia.. and would you believe....after going to 4 different computer shops.. no one would accept my card!!
On other occasions, i have used this same card in Jakarta, Bali, Singapore, Australia, to purchase airline tickets, pay for hotel accomodation etc etc.. and have never been questioned until now!!!
Because they were worried it was a "fake" ... I said to them... (im fluent in bahasa) funny you should reject my card for this reason...sorry but its usually the Indonesian's who cant be trusted with the c-cards...they just had a stupid grin on their faces..
I never let it out of my sight.. (in case they swipe the card under the table..)
Anyway eventually after a lot of hassle...I was able to make my purchase....AFTER having the shop keeper ring... the VISA OFFICE and questioning me... where the card was issued, how long for, whats the name on it etc etc....

PS...I wish you all the best to get your money back... and yes... whenever you go out of your usual town etc.. always let the credit card company know, where your going, and the dates.. so they can check it for you.
