If you hang around Orchard Road, you may as well be in a major mall anywhere in the world, and pay the prices, but if you venture around, and it's dead easy with the MTR, you will find fantastic clothes, shoes, bags at prices comparable to Bali, but better quality and very latest fashion.
Peoples Park has some good small shops and there are some great clothing outlets down South Bridge Road, past Chinatown.
Virtual Tourist is a good site.
ps. Don't be fooled by the cheap perfume shops,they are definitely fake and smell bad after an hour or so.
