with the Australian consul, the sooner the better. Keep all letters (including envelopes and stamps or emails) and photo's of your relationship. You might ask why? You need this proof if ever applying for a spouse visa, or later a residency visa if you ended up getting married.
When applying for any sort of visa for Indonesian people you need to prove that they will return to Indonesia and therefore you will more likely be given the visa. So if your boyfriend owns land then tell them and bring a land certificate. If he has a good job then prove that. Anything you can think of that will make it look certain he will return to Indonesia then put that point forward.
