I am aged similar and often shop alone. I use 2 thin surf wallets - one only has 50000 & 100000 rupiah and the other the rest of the notes . I have a shoulder bag and the wallet with the bigger notes is attach by a curtin ring and chain to either my shorts pocket or the bag . I have done this for years - more to stop me getting distracted shopping and leaving my wallet. If I am too pressured I walk away rather than buy and sometimes turn about when a few sellers give up.
I do have a small calculator but I find after a few days I very rarely need it.
I only exchange $100 AD at a time then all I do is add 2 zeros to the exchange rate.
I also have a material shoulder bag to but my purchases in that way for the first 10 mins I can shop hands free.
I have made my share of shopping blunders but haven't most of us. I always check my purchases before I leave if they have been put in a bag.
Enjoy shopping on your own - you may find others at your hotel to shop with but if not go ahead and shop till you drop girl.
