pl see the post fr Tuberose. Go to the main page where there is a list of hotels.
You can consider Swisshotel at Stamford. It is very central, sitting on top of the MRT station, next to the historic Raffles Hotel, old parliment house etc. listed at S$236.
Same area, 5 minutes walk away is Peninsular Hotel at S$124.

Another approach is Hotel in a conservation shop house building (or a few shop houses converted to hotel). Nice low scale historic building. no pool i think.
1. Duxton Hotel (also called Berjaya Hotel, bought over by the group) S$148. Room looks bigger in the internet.
2. Hotel 1929. S$120. Room looks smaller. more modern in renovation style but may be less comfortable.
I think Duxton is better. Both are in a early settlement area with the shop houses renovated, for commercial use. Both are near China Town.

Interesting to hear your previous experience on the cable car. i think the cable car was hit by some ship mask at high tight and got into the accident. Well you can take a taxi to Sentosa now (entry fee of $2 per head I think ), with the bridge & do a quick run around. More hotels built there. New residential building ala Sanctuary Cove, Gold Coast and new casino are being built/planned. The change is huge. You can see sme of those there now.

may be good to confirm with the hotel when you book to ensure that breakfast is included. generally they do.

Have a good trip.
