I've hired a few bikes and cars over there. If you are just cruising around Sanur or Nusa Dua etc, that's easy. If you want to get anywhere near Denpasar or any bigger town, that's just a death wish. I ride a motor bike here everyday in the centre of Sydney and even I wouldn't go near Denpasar on bike. Driving through Denpasar in a car is scary but strangely fun.
Anyway, you definately need an International licence, I've been pulled over there heaps of times. They just check you have one. If you don't have a bike license here forget it.
