Last year, brought a pack of 3, about AU$7. Left them in their plastic wrapping and just put through with checked in luggage. Had no problem whatsoever and they were in one piece when they arrived.
Will be doing the same again this christmas. I also buy swim rings and just leave them all there at the hotel when we leave. It's amazing our hotel seems to have the pool noodles left by people all the time and it's great.
For those who do not know what a pool noodle is it's a foam (soft) round (approx 10cm) stick (very flexible) of around 5ft.
