Steps at Discovery Mall are "favourite" and, whilst staying at Legian Beach Hotel on my arrival in August, had a serious proposition from guy who invited me inside adjacent kampung.
They don't even back-off when I tell them "Hey...I don't even smoke cigarettes"!!, nor when I tell them that I actually LIVE in Bali.
I'd hate to believe that these are actually "Police Plants", particularly as the local Police are making a really concentrated effort to stamp-out corrupt cops who have been preying on "bule" motorists. I have had only one bad experience in 3 Months and when I "pulled-rank" he backed-off immediately. All the others, and there are regular licence/registration checks across the Island (around 6 times stopped) have been 100% professional.
Really think that these are just similar "entrepreneurs" we would find in Oz and other Countries world-wide - just that this IS ASIA and penalties are appropriate for the destination.
