Having spent a lot of time in the building industry I would not recommend using fake nails. They will rust away very quickly and your whole construction will collapse. The same goes for cheaper glues (but you already seem to know this) Spend that little bit extra on real good quality nails and you will be able to sleep easy at nights. It is a great feeling, knowing that you have built something that is going to last.
