Contacting the hotels directly via email they were always happy to negotiate with me and quoted very good prices for 'long stay' of 2 weeks or more. Definately better than any travel agent price.
Turning up at the door with no booking the same hotels did not back down from their top online price.
What's up with that? Maybe we look like we're not good at bargaining face to face and they're right!
