Markets are better tha Kuta Markets - They Remind me of Bangkok markets. Be sure to go the under ground part where all the food is and get some stuff cooked up for you while you wait.
They can be pushy - but only if you let them and they see they can act how like like. I say a little fairness can be a little firmness. Some of the painting sellers in small shops in Ubud can be pushy - I had one that was down almost aggressive- but there wasn't many tourists, I just sat on the ground and said let me think. She joined me ofr a cigerette we shared pictures of kids and agreed on a better price.
I must say I love Ubud.
