Can't beat the warungs where the Balinese eat - we eat from them often, usually having the food made to take away - di bunkus - and eat in our aircon room. VERY cheap (Rp 10K max) & definitely authentic. Need a fork & spoon & having condiments like Kecap Manis & Lampung Chili sauce is enhancing. If you see locals eating at a warung or from a food cart most likely the food is good.

For a lovely place to eat haute Indon cuisine, try Ketupat behind Jonathan Gallery in Jl Legian on the Legian/Kuta border - superb Indonesian food in a lovely, quiet setting. And dirt cheap considering the quality of the food, service & stunning setting.
