Hi teresa, We stayed at a ground floor unit at south wing in June this year. Our previous trip was at a different GF room also. In June, the renovation of South wing was completed already.
Room & bathroom are big. room has a king size bed and a day bed.We requested for lagoon facing & we could feed the fishes & ducks after breakfast (with the bread). Suggest you call the hotel, establish contact with a manager & request for ground floor unit (if you like) & ask for priority. Otherwise request at check in. You are staying for 5 nights, you should be well looked after.
However, the nearer the room is to the beach/pool, the further away it is from the lobby. I had to take long walk to pick up the take away food delivery from the lobby! You may need to do this also:)

You can then decide if you are comfortable with the barrier of the patio/terrace to the lagoon as you have 3 kids.... The loagoon is not deep. Have seen them doing maintenance before.

I am sure you & your family will enjoy the hotel, especially the gardens, pools & the slide. The pool side restaurent, water court restaurent and the japanese restaurent are nice. Is your package inclusive of breakfast?
