We had Xmas in Bali 2004. Xmas was quiet, but between Xmas and New year, it was extremely busy. Middle of the day, traffic was solid and at snails pace from Bemo corner back along Jl Legian to Jl Melas1t. I gave up on the taxi, hopped out and walked to my destination, beating the taxi by 5 minutes. Javanese come across in droves. Locals don't like it, because they never buy anything. By Jan 2 they have all left again. I can remember walking down the middle of Poppies 2 and not meeting a vehicle. That might have because it was not long after the second bomb! The police and local village constabulary closed down all roads to cars around Kuta mid afternoon on New Years eve. Don't know if the road closure is an annual event though.
