We stayed in Sanur in October 2005, after a few days at the top end of Seminyak. [Not "top end" as in price, BTW.] 4 nights at the Mentari, followed by 7 nights at the Respati. Can't comment on Peneeda, but I'd definitely recommend Respati for those who prefer a smallish traditional place, on the beach, with mixed probably mainly European clientele, and at a very fair price.
Sanur was quiet, definitely much too quiet for the financial good of the locals, but very clean, peaceful and pleasant. Those Balinese people looking for business were certainly having a lean time, but I did not find them overly aggressive at all.
Plenty of cheap restaurants with good food and service. We ate mainly at Ananda Cafe, Kalimantan and Aladin. An assortment of interesting places for nights out. Sue and Agung's Water Hole [rock-n-roll], Mago [Latin music], Trophy Pub [easy listening]. And the very entertaining Cat and Fiddle, particularly on Tuesday evenings.
Emiko and I and the previous two posters and their respective partners are well known to one another and I can assure you that they are no more one-eyed than I am LOL!
