I don't like to unfairly generalise like this either. That's why I will not dish out wholesale criticism of Aussies, Poms, Europeans, Asians, Americans, Muslims, Javanese etc. Nor hawkers, taxi drivers, money changers and all the other assorted people who, in the main, are just trying to survive financially, under circumstances which would probably drive most of us to despair.
Yes, we can say "They're a Wierd Mob" [about all sorts of people!], as Australian author John O'Grady [pretending to be recent Italian arrival Nino Culotta] said about Aussies in his wonderful book about Sydney in 1965. But there's a lot of difference between fair comment, particularly obvious tongue-in-cheek and unfair generalisation, isn't there?
