Hi Ames, Given your response about wanting to have a more refined stay in Bali I would suggest the Seminyak area or if you are interested in the mountains I'd suggest Ubud. There is a vast range of accommodations and you did mention villas. If you are traveling with friends it's probably the smartest and most relaxing way to go.
