we have checked in to a hotel we have always had to submit our passport details... in some cases they actually photocopy the identity page of the passport. When we had our private residence in bali we always had to give our pasports to the owner so he could get us registered to comply with local KTP laws. Our daughter has stayed at many hotels and private residences, and always the same requirement for details. I don't know which hotel you stay at, but I am surprised that they do not insist on your full details. That is how people are found when something goes wrong.
