Hi again DeeCat.
We are basically friendly, genuine people. (especialy when Mrs. is weraring a muzzle.LOL) Our Balinese daughter was just one of the everyday market girls. Massage, manicure, T shirt, come & look at my shop type girl. Her face just lit up with her beautiful smile. The first day we met her, on our first trip to Bali (boy were we green then). We said to her & her friend that we wanted to sit quietly on the beach. They were welcome to sit with us but they must not speak. This they did, well for 2 or 3 minutes anyway. We joked with them about not speaking. We just had a general conversation, but stressed the point that we were not shopping today. We did promise to look at her shop the next day, which we did. She was so happy we kept our word. We would see her every day on our beach walk looking out for us. She learned very quickly not to be pushy. Some days we would buy a little something from her & sometimes we would just talk. We got to know her quite well through these conversations. We bought her a birthday present and carefully watched her reaction. One day I had a massage on the beach with her and found out quite alot more about her during more conversation.
We choose how friendly we want to be with the person, because they all want to be your friend. That evening I said to Mrs. how about we make Kuala our daughter in Bali. Mrs. was thinking the same thing.
We said this to Kuala the next day and she cried, which was so moving to us. We just had such a good gut feeling about this girl. We were right in our choice. Remember to be careful as they all want to be your friend. The same as anywhere in the world, choose carefully & slowly. It is too easy to feel sorry for them, don't give too much too soon.
Regards Charlie
