The monster parade the night before was utterly spectacular, even at Candi Dasa, & will always be remembered (especially as I was so enthralled with them that I fell into a ditch & ended up with a badly infected arm & a horrid scar - when anyone comments on it I just say I was aiming for my wrist but missed LOL - but it's a constant reminder of Bali). Nyepi is a very important, sacred occasion for the Balinese & this year especially so after the bombings of last year. We were glad to have been there for Nyepi, keeping quiet so the nasties fly over Bali & settle elsewhere for the next year.

I didn't hear any local children complaining or crying - perhaps you are referring to tourist kids? I had prepared for Nyepi - took stuff & spent the day doing girly stuff to hair, nails etc - things I can't be bothered with back here. We watched some dvds & explored our hotel, hung out with the staff. The candle-lit dinner was lovely. We could watch TV with curtains closed & candles were provided. It was sort of a holiday away from the busy holiday & a relaxing, pleasant time. Have to say tho that it would've been a pain if we hadn't been aware of it & prepared for it.
