Came back yesterday and the local paper was saying that all flights from Australia will be going via Jakarta. Jetstar will be laughing all the way to the bank. Spoke to some Australians whilst there and they were sick of Garuda changing flights from direct to via another city to get home. Hopefully the Australian Managers can get them to change their minds. From what I could understand of the story in the paper, you would change planes in Jakarta with a minimum stopover time but it would be to a smaller plane. Most of the bigger planes are needed for the run to Mecca. Commonsense would be to halve the flights out of Australia so that at least the planes are full instead of half full each flight.
