You will continue to be upgraded to business class seats if you are a Qantas Club member or Gold Frequent Flyer until Jetstar start running these routes in late November.
This is due to Qantas running two class planes to replace the one class Australian Airlines you bought tickets for.
Despite being neither a Qantas Club member or a Gold Frequent Flyer I managed to grab two seats each way out of Melbourne with a polite question knowing that they had the old business class seats on the plane at the front.
No prob's on the way over, but it was only because we got in ridicolously early on the way back that we were able to squeeze in.
