Hi

Some of you may remember that a couple of years ago, we started a project to provide 1000 bikes for needy kids in Bali. Sometimes these things don't always happen as fast as we would like.

At the Rotary District 3400 Conference about 18 months ago, we distributed about 100 as a token gesture.

Finally, last month, we distributed the 1000 bikes. Each Rotary Club in Bali was allocated about 100 to go to various schools & orphanages around Bali.

The bikes were all made in Indonesia to our specifications, complete with spare parts. They are provided to the schools, etc, not the children. When the child leaves school, or fails to maintain the bike correctly, it is returned to the school to go to the next needy person in line.

They are very heavy duty and, because of the quantity being ordered, cost $50 each. However, a Matching Grant was obtained to cover half of the cost, so we got them for about $25 each.

80 of them were provided by forumites.

If you would like to visit the link below you will find another link through to the website where you will find some fabulous photos of appreciative kids.

Cheers

Noel
